4-Year-Old's Death Ruled Homicide; Caretaker Charged With Child Abuse: Baltimore County Police

Police say that a 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the death of a 4-year-old earlier this year in Baltimore County.

Zurail Smith has been charged with several counts of child abuse following the May 5 death of Amir James, which was ruled a homicide, authorities announced on Tuesday.

According to investigators, James' body was found unresponsive inside a home in the unit block of Sollers Point Road in Dundalk. He was rushed to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

At the time the child died, Smith was temporarily taking care of him, they noted.

Smith is being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center
